MADISON, Ill. (May 3, 2025) – Rain did not stop the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 5 from performing at World Wide Technology Raceway for the Race 1 finals of the doubleheader on May 2. After fierce competition these competitors came out on top of the competition with two racers doubling up on wins in two different categories.

Donnie Durenberger and Jeff Strickland both did what seemed nearly impossible. Both racers secured two Wally’s in two separate classes, with two separate cars. Durenberger from Dayton, MN in the ’78 Kz in Sportsman Motorcycle and in his ’72 Nova for Super Street put in impressive times to take home the win in two challenging categories.

The exciting day did not stop there, Strickland from Red Bay, AL competed in seven rounds of Stock Eliminator in his ’23 Copo to battle it out to take the line but also put it all out to take another win in Top Dragster with his ’14 American. Winning one Wally is challenging enough, but having two racers and four different classes, that is one for the history books.

With this being the first year Division 5 has come out to WWT Raceway history was already made, but with the runs these racers put in, it shows just how impactful WWT Raceway can be to the schedule.

The Division 5 racers showed true determination during Race 1 with rain delays and the complementary drying of the track. Somehow, the rain did not deter these racers from showing out and proving why they love the high-speed motorsport.

Thank you to everybody for showing out and being patient with the numerous weather-related delays. Racing is to continue May 3 with finals for Race 2 of the doubleheader. For further information please stay tuned to track and Division 5 socials.
