The 2019 Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway will long be remembered as a race of redemption for Japanese driver Takuma Sato. Less than a week after being the center of controversy for a major crash at Pocono.

After qualifying fifth, Sato dropped back to last place following an incident in turn 1 on the opening lap. From there, he battled back to score the closest finish in track history with a .0399 second margin of victory over Ed Carpenter. It was his second win of the season, the fifth of his career and his first on a short oval track.
