The ‘Spring of Speed’ is Coming in Hot with Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 5

The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Spring Sizzler Driven by KSHE-95 takes on World Wide Technology Raceway
MADISON, Ill. (April 24, 2025) – The NHRA Division 5 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is set to kick-off the ‘Spring of Speed’ at World Wide Technology Raceway on April 30-May 3. The Spring Sizzler driven by KSHE-95 held on the final day of the doubleheader weekend will include a variety of events perfect for fans who love all things racing.
Come witness 225+ mph Top Dragsters and Top Sportsman tear down the drag strip and watch the wheel-standing Super Stock and Stock eliminator racers while they continue towards breaking world records. This four-day event full of racing is guaranteed to be action-packed as these racers battle head-to-head for the season’s first win.
For the first time, WWT Raceway will host NHRA Division 5, and this doubleheader will be full of on-track excitement and will have plenty of off-track entertainment. Alongside the high-speed action on the drag strip, there will be a free car cruise for custom cars and classic hot rods on Saturday May 3. Car cruise roll-in starts at 10 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m., and this event is free for all car clubs and classic hot rods.
Admission for this full day of racing for spectators on May 3 is $30 for adults, $15 for students and kids 12 and under get in free. You can also save $5 by purchasing in advance via TIXR, and spectator gates are located at 1905 Collinsville Rd.
More than 600 racers from 40 states will be competing in the NHRA Sportsman National Championships, with their first stop at WWT Raceway. To start off the opening weekend, gates open at 8 a.m. CT on Tuesday, April 29 for a Test and Tune session. Overnight stacking will begin at 8 p.m.
Qualifying and time runs for Race 1 begin on Wednesday, April 30 at 8 a.m. and the Laris Super Shootouts will be contested on this day as well. Gates open at 7 a.m. both Wednesday and Thursday, May 1, and eliminations for Race 1 will begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday.
Friday, May 2, marks the start of the second race of the doubleheader. The track goes hot at 8 a.m. where Super Street, Stock, Super Comp, Super Stock and Super Gas classes will all have one time trial or qualifying session before heading into round one of eliminations. Sportsman Motorcycle, Top Dragster, Competition and Top Sportsman will each have two qualifying sessions for the second race.
Eliminations for Race 2 continue Saturday, May 3 at 8 a.m., and the Spring Sizzler Driven by KSHE-95 events will run in conjunction of the final day of racing.
