MADISON, Ill. (May 8, 2025) – With just over a month until the ninth annual Bommarito Automotive Group 500, reigning and five-time winner of the Madison based race, Josef Newgarden, was welcomed back to the city of St. Louis by Major League Soccer team St. Louis City SC on May 6 when he participated in a jersey swap and VIP tour of the facility.
Newgarden was invited on a VIP tour of facility where he was greeted by City Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel, who guided the two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES Champion on an in-depth tour of the facility. Newgarden was taken through the state-of-the-art training facility where he was given an in-depth look at the team’s amenities.
Pfannenstiel guided the Indy 500 champion through the facility showing him their training equipment, locker rooms, screening cinema and recovery areas. While on the tour, Newgarden presented Pfannenstiel with an honorary Indianapolis 500 milk bottle.
The tour concluded with Newgarden on the pitch at Energizer Park where City welcomed him with a banner on the screens of the stadium. Newgarden and Pfannenstiel were later joined by City team Capitan Marcel Hartel and Goalkeeper Ben Lundt, and the two City stars were also gifted commemorative milk bottles presented by the Indianapolis 500 winner. The quartet participated in a jersey swap, with Newgarden receiving a customized City jersey with his name and car number.
The group dwindled down after the exchange with Newgarden, Lundt and Hartel migrating off the pitch and into the team’s locker room. The two City players showed Newgarden their home locker room and the trio also talked about racing and soccer.
Being reigning champion of the next two ovals, Newgarden stays busy as the Indianapolis 500 is just a few weeks away and the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 follows less than a month after. While Newgarden may be part of the entertainment on the 1.25-mile oval, off-track the entertainment does not stop.
With the Celebration of 66 Fest presented by Discover Downstate Illinois, musical artists of Soul Asylum, Sponge and Cracker will have the crowd enjoying their 90s hits. The concert is free for all guests who purchased a ticket.
Come see Josef Newgarden at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 June 14-15. To purchase tickets please visit wwtraceway.com or call the ticket office at (618) 215-8888 Ext. 1.
