Carl’s Four Wheel Drive and Performance Center Bracket Series Race 5 and 6 Results

Welcome back to World Wide Technology Raceway’s Carl’s 4 Wheel Drive and performance Center bracket race number five and six. Hot was the word everyone was using this weekend with temperatures in the upper 90s and humidity in the 80s, the only thing hotter than the temperatures on the track was the racing taking place. The weekend saw the return to glory of a multiple time track champion finding his way back to winner circles, a complete domination by a junior dragster family converted over to sportsman racers, another multiple time track champion finding her way into the pro class winner circle, and just the kid you thought would be dominating junior dragster is doing exactly that… yes there were definitely some hot hot drivers on the track and man did we have a fun weekend!!! Here are those stories!!
SUPER PRO:
Super Pro Saturday finals matched up 1963 Corvette racer Scott McCardie from Troy, Missouri against hometown, favorite and former Twin 50s winner Angelo Belosi. Belosi, who left his famed 1967 Chevy II at home, instead chose to bring out his new 2014 Camaro. Both Scott and Angelo were 12 and 13 respectively on the tree in the final round with Belosi taking the stripe and breaking out by three thousandths of a second and Scott jumped on the brakes to get behind just enough in a great final. Great job guys. Scott had to beat Matt Moon in the semifinals as Moon went red. In the other semifinal, Belosi had to run Nancy Conn, whom he has already run in multiple semifinals this year beating Conn with a one over performance.
Sunday’s Super Pro finals featured “The Cookie Monster” Brian Cook versus very strong second-generation racer Matthew Schaeffer both in their respective dragsters. The final round had Cook with a .006 light and Schaeffer with a .007 reaction time. Schaeffer got to the stripe first but was six thousandths of a second under his dial in securing the win for Brian Cook who was two over his dial in standing on the brakes at the finish line. Schaeffer had to take out John Tignor in the semifinals and Cook had the best Mark Buttrum. Cook, who is always strong as nails, was especially proud of his win as he has had major struggles trying to get this dragster dialed in 2026.
PRO CLASS:
Pro Class Saturday saw a couple of multi-time champions doing battle looking for the win. Jon Tignor took advantage of a .016 one over the dial in reaction time advantage and used that advantage to ensure a victory over Clay Tyler and his beautiful 1961 Corvair Wagon. Tignor was certainly on his game Saturday beating Jeremy Rosenstengel in the semifinals while Clay Tyler needed to beat Ryan Komor in his semifinal matchup. Tignor was definitely tough Saturday but his was by no means done for the weekend!!!!
Sunday’s Pro Class finals was also a matchup of former champions only this time one of those champions was champion and multiple time winner in the motorcycle class. Sunday’s final featured Jon Tignor against motorcycle racer Janie Palm. Janie gave up a .039 to a .015 starting line advantage to Tignor in the final round. Janie and her hard charging motorcycle went a 5.946 on a 5.94 dial in and got Tignor to jump on the brakes and dump at the finish line taking his normally deadly, consistent Malibu and running a 6.249 on a 6.20 dial securing the victory for Palm. Tignor had to beat Dan Smith in the semifinals as Janie Palm earned the bye run in the semi’s coming into the finals. Congratulations to Janie on a great victory.
VP RACING LUBRICANTS SPORTSMAN CLASS:
The VP Racing Lubricants Sportsman Class for the WWTR bracket races 5-6 was all about the Stewart Racing Team domination this weekend. When it gets hot, the Stewart family kicks into high gear. Yes, we all know their names, Sam Stewart, Sarah Stewart, Leah (soon to be Stewart) Wheeler, Dan Helmsing and his driver Eddie Schoenfeld. Of course, Mike and Angela Stewart who put this team together. What did they do this weekend? They just ran the table. Saturday’s race, soon to leave for college and her jet car driving career, Sarah Stewart took her car, borrowed from her father Mike, and won the VP Racing Lubricants Sportsman Class over Conner Awalt. Sunday’s race, young driving sensation Leah Wheeler (coming off a win at I-57 raceway) in her first WWTR VP Racing Lubricants Sportsman final beat the other team Stewart driver Eddie Schoenfeld in his first final. What a great weekend for Team Stewart!!!
COMMERCIAL SAFE AND LOCK SUPER PRO MX
Commercial Safe and Lock Super Pro Motorcycle Saturday finals saw Brandon Childress of Altamont, Illinois on his 76 Kawasaki defeat BJ Evans. Childress took advantage of .007 starting line reaction time to Evans’ .032. Evans had the semifinal bye based off his fourth round .000 perfect reaction time. This guy was on fire. Great job by Childress to get around Evans to secure the victory.
Sunday’s Commercial Safe and Lock Super Pro Motorcycle final featured winner Zach Hunter versus runner up Darnell Dickerson. Zach had a .023 reaction time testing Dickerson’s red light start. Congratulations to Zach Hunter.
E-TICKET MOTORSPORTS JUNIOR THUNDER:
Saturday’s E-Ticket Motorsports Junior Thunder race saw Greyson Hopley take the victory over Brayden Hearn. Brayden was also so close to being perfect on the tree with a .003 light but unfortunately it was a red light. Greyson was also nearly perfect as he won an 8.904 on his 8.90 dial in to secure the victory. Congratulations Greyson on your win.
Sunday’s E-Ticket Motorsports Junior Thunder race also saw Greyson Hopley double up on his win over Jaxson Sutton. Greyson used a huge start line advantage to defeat Sutton who was 13.02 on his 13.00 dial in in the loss. Great job kids.
E-TICKET MOTORSPORTS JUNIOR LIGHTNING:
Saturday’s E-Ticket Motorsports Junior Lightning race saw multiple times champion Cohen Hale defeat Juliet Reed. Hale took advantage of his .007 reaction time and ran a 7.971 on a 7.94 dial in to defeat an equally impressive Reed who was .017 on the reaction time and ran a 7.95 on a 7.90 dial in.
Sunday’s race again saw Cohen Hale in the finals only this time as opponent was Cayden Duell. Cayden was closer to his dial in at the finish line as Hale had an issue that cost him the race. Congratulations to Cayden on your victory.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Saturday’s High School race finals featured Cohen Hale versus Karson Elkins. Elkins had issues with his car giving the victory over to Hale who was .079 on the tree and ran a 11.807 on his 11.78 dial in.
Sunday’s High School race again featured Cohen Hale versus Karson Elkins. Karson took a tremendous starting line advantage over Hale .018 to a .049 but Elkins ran 8 numbers off his dial in to allow Hale to take the victory and double up for the weekend. Great job Cohen Hale!!!
JUNIOR STREET:
The Junior Street class started out with finishing the final round from the NHRA 75th Anniversary Wally Race from May 16. The final round saw reigning class champion Jacob Phillips taking on Jaxon Legate. Jaxon had some staging issues in the final round, ultimately bumping in through the stage beams and getting a red light, automatically handing the NHRA 75th Anniversary Wally over to Jacob Phillips.
Once into eliminations for Saturday’s race, it was a fierce field of competition that once again made their way down to the final round, where we saw rain again. The final round will be Cayden Duell vs. Jason Phillips and that will now be run during qualifying of the next race July 11.
